In Maisons-Alfort, a care center overwhelmed by the number of animals taken in: “We spent some sleepless nights”

One by one, the birds are carefully picked up and then fed crickets using tongs. At the Faune Alfort wildlife center, located within the National Veterinary School of Alfort (Val-de-Marne), keepers, interns, and volunteers, dressed in blue and white coats, mingle and work seven days a week.
Two interns from the association, Méryl Robert and Raphaël (who does not wish to give his last name), are busy feeding some 250 young swifts collected in recent weeks, in a room refurbished for the occasion. The process is meticulous. "They have quite fragile beaks, so you have to be very careful," explains Raphaël. While waiting for favorable weather conditions for their release, the chicks are housed in cardboard boxes and require constant care. "We feed them four times a day, our days are dedicated to that," he explains.
